In all fairness to this Despicable Scum I should note that this photo was taken at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Jerusalem. The thought CERTAINLY hadn’t even begun to start to cross my mind to use this picture in any other context. Nope. Not in the least. That would be wrong. I would feel terrible about it.

ALLEN WEST

When I first started writing my website, DespicableFucks.com, I began by compiling a list of the absolute shithouse-bottom Members of the House of People Who in Large Part Don’t Represent Us.  I was careful to work with the premise that since these were the worst of a large field of worst, there would be no need to rank them.  West presented a problem in compiling my list.  He’s too wretched to ignore.  Allen West is THE SCUMMIEST Member of the House of Pancakes Representatives. 

 Okay, this guy is nuts.  He’s the black G. Gordon Liddy and he’s a Congressman!  It’s hard to trash a man with a 22 year military service record that includes multiple tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.  Hard, that is, until you read that he was brought up on military charges for firing a gun over the head of an Iraqi police officer in an attempt to obtain information about an assassination plot that West later admitted he may have been misinformed about.  It doesn’t take much more than watching a few short YouTube videos of West’s 2010 campaign to realize that this is one scary, violent, megalomaniacal, dangerous psychopath.  Julian Brookes in Rolling Stone said West, “might be the nuttiest person in Congress right now.” Steve Benen in the Washington Monthly called West, “someone who seems unhinged to an almost dangerous, out-of-control degree.”  C’mon Steve, don’t hold back…he is.

West doesn’t just want to be your Congressman, he wants to take over.  With guns.  His campaign speeches are loaded with references to gladiators, Spartans, knights and other parliamentary debaters of the past.  Blatant calls to take up arms and charge your enemies abound.  “If you’re here to stand up, to get your musket, to fix your bayonet and to charge into the ranks, you are my brother and sister in this fight.” (YouTube video)  Shortly after his election he told a radio show, “[I am] even more focused that this Liberal, Progressive, Socialist agenda, this Left-wing, vile, vicious, despicable machine that’s out there is soundly brought to its knees.” (Think Progress)  “I can’t think of a better venue,” he said, speaking in a gun store, “to bring patriots together, thinking about ‘Don’t Tread on Me,’ thinking about those Minutemen at Lexington and Concord who answered the call against a tyrannical British government; that’s where we stand.”  (Campaign speech)

Low self esteem is not an issue for West, either.   He calls himself a lion and has compared himself to Patton and to Maximus in “Gladiator.”  In a couple of his more scary YouTube videos (and most of his videos are pretty hellacious,) he lowers his voice, draws in his stupefied zombie audience of Tea Party drones, and like a televangelist starts intoning follow me…  He’ll also occasionally give glimpses of his real ambitions.  “Nancy Pelosi, give me that damned gavel,” or “When I get up to Washington DC I’m going to look Nancy Pelosi in the eye, I’m going to look Barney Frank in the eye, and I’m going to tell them one thing, ‘pack your crap and get out.’”

West’s unwavering, intransigent belief in his own views is downright creepy.  If Allen West believed the Earth was flat there would be no way in hell you could convince him that it’s round. “I am not going to stop speaking the truth.  The truth is not subjective.”  West said during a town hall meeting in regards to his extreme anti-Muslim positions.  Another time, “The facts are on my side and that’s why I’m not concerned,” (Daily Beast) or “I didn’t learn anything from it, you just adjust and continue on.” (Washington Post)

But exactly the traits that make West a luscious, crème-filled Twinkie in the dessert aisle of the Republican party may also bring him down.  His People’s Temple-like devotion to the Paul Ryan rape the elderly budget plan won’t play well in a district that has more seniors than an Old Country Buffet.  His multiple psychoses and public speeches that sound like the taunting letters sent to the police by serial killers will make for some juicy Democratic campaign ads.  But this is also Florida, whose state motto is “Where America sends you to die” and where rock-brained stubbornness and violent ranting against unseen conspirators are viable selling points, so who knows?

I’ll leave the final word on Allen West to Keith Olbermann:  “Just resign, Congressman.  You’re making a jackass out of yourself, again.” (Countdown)
