When I first started writing my website, DespicableFucks.com, I began by compiling a list of the absolute shithouse-bottom Members of the House of People Who in Large Part Don’t Represent Us. I was careful to work with the premise that since these were the worst of a large field of worst, there would be no need to rank them. West presented a problem in compiling my list. He’s too wretched to ignore. Allen West is THE SCUMMIEST Member of the House of
Okay, this guy is nuts. He’s the black G. Gordon Liddy and he’s a Congressman! It’s hard to trash a man with a 22 year military service record that includes multiple tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Hard, that is, until you read that he was brought up on military charges for firing a gun over the head of an Iraqi police officer in an attempt to obtain information about an assassination plot that West later admitted he may have been misinformed about. It doesn’t take much more than watching a few short YouTube videos of West’s 2010 campaign to realize that this is one scary, violent, megalomaniacal, dangerous psychopath. Julian Brookes in Rolling Stone said West, “might be the nuttiest person in Congress right now.” Steve Benen in the Washington Monthly called West, “someone who seems unhinged to an almost dangerous, out-of-control degree.” C’mon Steve, don’t hold back…he is.
West doesn’t just want to be your Congressman, he wants to take over. With guns. His campaign speeches are loaded with references to gladiators, Spartans, knights and other parliamentary debaters of the past. Blatant calls to take up arms and charge your enemies abound. “If you’re here to stand up, to get your musket, to fix your bayonet and to charge into the ranks, you are my brother and sister in this fight.” (YouTube video) Shortly after his election he told a radio show, “[I am] even more focused that this Liberal, Progressive, Socialist agenda, this Left-wing, vile, vicious, despicable machine that’s out there is soundly brought to its knees.” (Think Progress) “I can’t think of a better venue,” he said, speaking in a gun store, “to bring patriots together, thinking about ‘Don’t Tread on Me,’ thinking about those Minutemen at Lexington and Concord who answered the call against a tyrannical British government; that’s where we stand.” (Campaign speech)
Low self esteem is not an issue for West, either. He calls himself a lion and has compared himself to Patton and to Maximus in “Gladiator.” In a couple of his more scary YouTube videos (and most of his videos are pretty hellacious,) he lowers his voice, draws in his stupefied zombie audience of Tea Party drones, and like a televangelist starts intoning follow me… He’ll also occasionally give glimpses of his real ambitions. “Nancy Pelosi, give me that damned gavel,” or “When I get up to Washington DC I’m going to look Nancy Pelosi in the eye, I’m going to look Barney Frank in the eye, and I’m going to tell them one thing, ‘pack your crap and get out.’”
West’s unwavering, intransigent belief in his own views is downright creepy. If Allen West believed the Earth was flat there would be no way in hell you could convince him that it’s round. “I am not going to stop speaking the truth. The truth is not subjective.” West said during a town hall meeting in regards to his extreme anti-Muslim positions. Another time, “The facts are on my side and that’s why I’m not concerned,” (Daily Beast) or “I didn’t learn anything from it, you just adjust and continue on.” (Washington Post)
But exactly the traits that make West a luscious, crème-filled Twinkie in the dessert aisle of the Republican party may also bring him down. His People’s Temple-like devotion to the Paul Ryan rape the elderly budget plan won’t play well in a district that has more seniors than an Old Country Buffet. His multiple psychoses and public speeches that sound like the taunting letters sent to the police by serial killers will make for some juicy Democratic campaign ads. But this is also Florida, whose state motto is “Where America sends you to die” and where rock-brained stubbornness and violent ranting against unseen conspirators are viable selling points, so who knows?
I’ll leave the final word on Allen West to Keith Olbermann: “Just resign, Congressman. You’re making a jackass out of yourself, again.” (Countdown)
On President Obama and his Administration
“He never played Little League baseball…things of that nature which are the fabric of this country. He does not have a connection to this country.” (Atlas Shrugs interview)
“I think that this is purposeful maliciousness that you are seeing from this administration. I don’t think that they care for this country. I think that they are trying to remake it into some third-world Socialist cesspool.” (ibid)
“…he is an intransigent Liberal Progressive Socialist who is also a Marxist.” “He has a vision for this country that is anathema to the vision of the Founding Fathers.” (Interview on 810AM Orlando)
“Well, this is the bottom line: We elected a person to be president that has no leadership qualities whatsoever.” (YouTube interview)
“I can’t stand the guy. I absolutely can’t stand him.” (YouTube speech)
“[Obama is]…like a low-level Socialist agitator.” (The Young Turks)
On GLBT Issues
“The term ‘gay marriage’ is an oxymoron. Because marriage is a union and a bond between a man and a woman to do one thing: the furtherance of society through procreation.” (Right Wing Watch)
When asked why he supports Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: “We open ourselves to very tumultuous things happen in the barracks. [sic]” (The Bilerico Project)
“Unless I’m Michael Jackson I can’t change my skin color. But people can change behavior. And you do not base being a part of the military on adjusting to individual behavior. Now is not the time to appease a very small special interest group.”
On the Economy
“I don’t know why we have people arbitrarily deciding who is rich or who is poor. That’s a very Socialist perspective.” (Interview in the Miami New Times)
“I want you all to stop talking about tax cuts for the wealthy.” (ibid)
“The Constitution says ‘promote the general welfare’ not provide welfare,” and “Right now…we have a class warfare that’s going on. You have a producing class and you’ve got an entitlement class…these people are living amongst us.” (YouTube video)
Chairman Ryan’s budget reins in spending and balances the budget without raising taxes or hurting our seniors and shows the American people that we are serious about reducing our deficit, eliminating our debt, strengthening our economy and creating a brighter future for the next generation.” (West’s Congressional webpage)
On the Islamic Faith
“We cannot allow them to come into our country and proselytize in their mosques and talkin’ about overthrowing our government, our Constitutional Democracy, saying they want to replace it with Sharia and then we say that’s okay, that’s freedom of speech, freedom of religion but it’s not, it’s sedition.” …now there’s a sentence! (YouTube interview)
“I’m very concerned that this Arab Spring really is going to turn out to be a Muslim Brotherhood nightmare.” (YouTube speech)
“You must realize that this is not a religion you’re fighting against. You’re fighting against a theo-political belief system and construct. You need to get into the Koran…and then you can really understand that this is not a perversion, they are doing exactly what this book says.” (CSPAN via YouTube)
“We are against something that is a totalitarian, theocratic political ideology and it is called Islam. This is not about Muslims. It is just the same as in Nazi Germany—not every German was a Nazi. [It] is about an ideology that has existed since 622 AD…and it has been violent ever since…and this is just another chapter in the long book that they are writing to conquer each and every one of us.” (Speech to the Freedom Defense Initiative, a must-watch if you can stomach it.)
On deficits, or women, or who the hell knows what: “We need you to come in and lock shields and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these women know on the other side—these Planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness—to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow.” (Think Progress)
“I saw that bumper sticker that absolutely incenses me…it’s that bumper sticker that says ‘Coexist’ and it has all the little religious symbols on it. Every time I see one of those bumper stickers I look at the person inside that is driving. Because that person represents something that would give away our country; would give away who we are, our rights and freedoms and liberties, because they are afraid to stand up and confront that which is the antithesis, the anathema of who we are.” (Think Progress)
A truly great and extensive interview with West from the Miami New Times .

West’s keynote speech at this year’s CPAC fuck fest conference. (YouTube video)
Take this piece with a grain of salt as it’s generally hearsay but this blogger’s reported conversation with a West staffer illustrates perfectly West’s obstinance in his positions, the utter arrogance of Tea Party officials and West’s tendency to blame any criticism on the dark, liberal forces aligned against him.
A post from the blog Booker Rising on West’s Cult of Personality
All that this YouTube video of a West campaign speech needs is some cinematography by Leni Riefenstahl.
West goes off his meds.
Think Progress captures everything you need to know about Allen’s view of Islam and overall Middle Eastern culture in one brief article.
